16 Bit

16 bit are here with some heavy bass that makes me think of little girls running away from blood thirsty zombies. Just in time for Halloween. Enjoy.

My personal favorite.

FELIX CARTAL

A huge new track is due from one of our favorite home town heros. This gem still doesn't have a release date or a label behind it, but I'm sure once the shopping is all done it will explode. It has already been taking a toll on my home system and will be blowing some speakers over halloween.
Play safe this weekend and here are some tunes to get the weekend going right! Trick-or-Treat!

El Guincho

Pablo Díaz-Reixa, of El Guincho from Barcelona has been making some waves this summer. Great sunshine feel good music makes you wish the summer would come sooner. Wonderful tropical sounds and a definite Animal Collective influence. Once you here Bombay, it will be stuck on repeat for days to come. The video is much the same with some wonderful slow motion footage, pretty ladies and some rather interesting motifs. I'd be looking out for this Tropical Indie pop dance phenomenon around the blogosphere, there is sure to be some more great hits on the way.

DrivePilot

Hailing from Portland Oregon producer Nick Edwards is originally from our fair city. That makes me wonder why he hasn't been back to Vancouver to perform ? He has some amazing tracks and remixes all mind boggling electro, what's not to like. Freakishly heavy with a definite metal/hardcore influence. DrivePilot is sure to get a whole building shaking, whether its your apartment condo or the entire club. Time will tell.

My Name is Skrillex

Sonny Moore is an American musician who has been in various bands and had a solo career under the same name, but is most known for his time as the lead singer of the "emo" band From First To Last. Throughout the early 2000's, Moore has been producing electronic music under his name, even making Alternative Press' 100 To Watch. As of late 2009, Sonny Moore started DJ-ing in Los Angeles clubs under a different alias, 'Skrillex' which was taken from an AIM username Moore used as a teenager. Skrillex gained a lot of attention in the LA club scene by playing lively, energetic shows normally not seen with electronic music DJ's. He also released remixes of metal-core band Bring Me the Horizon, indie rockers Twin Horizon and Lady Gaga.

With his style of music ranging from dubstep to electro to house to even metal and his live shows, his music gained the attention of a certain Mau5 who exclusively played his tracks until eventually signing him to his label 'Mau5trap'. And because of Deadmau5's support, Skrillex quickly became a house hold name in the electronic dance music scene.

Skrillex has released one EP My Name Is Skrillex which was available as a free download on his website and will be release a full length entitled Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites on Mau5trap in late 2010.

Widdle Me This

I've been listening to this guy on a daily basis for like 2 weeks now. CAN'T GET ENOUGH! He not only knows how to throttle you with the kinds lucrative brain vibrating beats you hear coming from Datsik and Rusko but he also puts out some songs hitting on the melodic side of the genre just as well.

Here's a few originals
Enjoy!

FM Attack with Alonzo Wang, Pat Lok, Hunter-Even, Hunk The Drunk and Christian Flores.

We'll you don't have to tell me I've been slow to put up this post but I have no excuse either. What I can tell you is that this is definitely a fun night to remember. Great tunes with Shawn Ward (FM Attack), as well as Pat Lok and the Winnie Cooper boys Tristan (Hunk the Drunk) and Christian 'flowers' Flores. I would do it all over again if I ever had the chance. For now we'll just have to savour it with some choice shots of another great part gone and done.
If you missed FM Attack for what ever not good enough reason.... spencer.... Just take a listen to this mix and know you'll have to make it out then time this find young fellow is back in town.

Chauffeur

Chauffeur rockin' last week in Calgary

Wednesday night I witnessed Chauffeur absolutely kill everything on the dance floor. By the time Felix Cartal came onto the stage, the crowd was already going insane, but like he always does, Felix blew us away, ("Felix is going to have to hold his own tonight" said Chauffeur in the interview). After Felix played Chauffeur came back on to rap things up -but not really, as he proceeded to rock Habitat until nothing was left standing.

A few days before the show I was fortunate enough to meet this gem on short notice and got a peek at a bunch of demos that he's been producing over the past few months. As well as rocking out in his truck after work, he explained as to how he is becoming a star in the city of Calgary.

Chauffeur grew up in Highriver, a small suburban south of Calgary, playing once or twice a month in a small bar that was consistently packed with his close friends and supporters, having a great time by doing their own thing with music and loving it thoroughly. His set captured the people who are now his followers and seeing it in action Wednesday night, everyone, who all knew each other, were going nuts again for their family friend, Chauffeur.

Working the day job, and being extremely successful, he works harder in the evenings and weekends, (like our cellphone companies do.... pfff) spending time creating new sounds and experimenting to achieve that eye-opening, ear-orgasm that is truly unique to his fans.

Me: So from start to finish, what went into producing your very first EP, "Streets?"

Chauffeur: There was a serious learning curve, but just about everything went into it. (Pulls out his Iphone) It all starts here, I record ideas that just come sporadically to my mind, I'll take it to the lab and crank it out, and then leave it alone for a couple of months. When I come back to I decide if it still is worth doin' up.

Me: So whats going on in the next few months?

Chauffeur: Everything! Lots of producing, Top Billin' is eager to see more and are pushing to get another mix or two out, as well as another EP

Me: Do you enjoy mixing at the clubs, or would you rather be releasing tracks for the public to hear?

Chauffeur: Both. Its great to release some new tracks, and DJing is too much fun. Being creative and

Me: Do you find Calgary's interest in the scene growing into a Chauffeur-friendly place?

Chauffuer: I really do, I think its blown up in the last 6 months here and its only going to get busier as more shows are played and more people can see what it is that is actually going on.

Me: Do you have some sick-crazy pre-game routine before a show?

Chauffeur: Yes, I drink Vodka, sometimes with lime.
Chauffer KILLIN' it with Felix Cartal

End of the day, Chauffeur has a bag of potential being opened up within the next few months, so be sure to come by RainCity and then to check out some exclusive releases by my new favorite, Chauffeur.

Lastly, be sure to check out his Pre Party Jamz Mix!
