Mix Tape Monday

Well Summer is coming to and end. Its been a real great time. Lots of parties, nice tans, beach days. It has been pretty care free. Not to fret, it is all coming again soon, about 300 sleep left and we can do it all over but better then next time. Plus who says there aren't any good time to have during those other seasons. However, I thought I'd whip up a little something to keep it going to for all of you even when it clouds over and starts to rain. I think the best parts of summer can happen in the rain.

The name's Twizt. Oliver Twizt.

A typical story, young boy cruising into a record shop. Enthralled by the music. Playing the vinyls, but never buying them. The Netherlands descendant eventually faced the decision of pursuing his Masters of Science, or continuing his interest in the music scene. In the end, music was his final decision. And what more to say then, thank god.

In 2010, he was set to crank his music and production on full, and since the beginning of this year has come out with upwards of ten new tracks. His EP 'Gangsterdam' on Laidback Luke's Mighty Mixmash, and Diplo's MADDECENT, is highly supported by fellow Dutchman Chuckie, Sidney Samson, as well as David Guetta. Twist is bringing the heat, there is no doubt about it. Sneakerz Muzik has signed his tracks Headbanger, and Bimma, which is seemingly only leading on to better things for him. Keep your ears open for the moment this man shines.

Beat. Au. Cue. Could not have said it better myself.

Although just recently posted that Beataucue is finishing up their EP, prior to this, the French duo from Caen, Paris, have provided heavy, strong productions and remixes. They have recently been topping the HypeM charts, and are receiving endless amounts of support by blogs worldwide. Their enthusiasm pours through their music, allowing nothing else but the feeling of getting those dancing shoes on, and showing everybody on the dance floor what it is all about. And it isn't this... two-steppin' junk. The crowd goes absolutely crazy.

Now I'm not sure where they've been, but they're in the midst of my mind at the moment. The duo's signature on their remixes can be spoken as nothing better than a cup of hot chocolate on a chilly winters day. Gives you those little butterflies in your tummy, you know?

Pure. Genuine. Fun.

RainMan

Sebastian Lowes, of RainMan have been making a some noise in our great capital of Ottawa. Along with CTak, Charles Tak, RainMan has been starting up some exciting even in the area like RainDance with the of The KNWLDGE. He has played at DubSmack and been producing a few originals remixes and some great mix tape in the recent past. I'd be looking out for both RainMan and CTak in the near future, but until then take a look at TheKNWLDG.com ,"Discotecha" and the "July Mix".

Making it through mid terms wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but looking to the months ahead it seems that making through finals will be challenge. Blueprint has some how done it again and has brought together an outstanding line up of shows for for the next couple of months. Jokers of the Scene, Felix Cartal, Designer Drugs, Wolfgang Gartner, Caspa, Kissy Sell Out (with our very own Hunter Even) and Rusko are scheduled to play here in van along with the Bloody Beetroots. Whaaaaaa! Seems like the dead season wont be very dead at all...Get pumped and get those work days off. Wait to get your wisdom teeth pulled until after or get it done asap. Start saving money for drinking and tickets, I know you all work full time!

Bingo Players

Well long story short I can't find any information on these guys. What the hell hey? They are so dam good and when they were in town playing Ginger 62 I stuck playing a residents night at Shine until 2:30 am. just my luck. Since then they have been continuing their world tour throughout the US and Europe. Take a look at these tracks I've been pumping them pretty well every morning on my way into the woods. I really hope they come back soon. I'll make sure to take the night off.

Clockwork

Hello RainCity, I've had the pleasure to work with the one and only, Hunter-Even. After spending countless hours with him in a bush hundreds of miles away from a McDonalds, we realized I should get involved with the site. Being based out of Calgary, I'll be posting reviews from the area. Enough chit chat, and on with some tunes!

Clockwork or Henry Steinway is one man based from LA and who's produced a good number of remixes that are widely spread out in genre. With a few mash ups including one with The Office theme song, and an arsenal of Dutch House mixes, Clockwork has made it to the top of my scouting list and I look forward to his new releases from Kinetika Records.

Valerna

Over the last year Brett Sorrentino and RJ Buchanan who are more commonly known as Valerna have been slowly building a fan base in their home town L.A. As of late this electro duo has been working a number of new remixes and original tracks that released on July 21st. They have played with some of the worlds leading electro acts such as Harvard Bass (DubSided), Wolfgang Gartner (DIMMAK), and DATA. Here are a few of their newest track but be sure to look out for their other releases from Plasmapool including "Look Ma! No Pants" and "Teenage Mutant Techno". I'm not sure how to describe exactly what is going on here. Lets just let the noise speak for its self.

D.A.M.B.

Tropical.

Never terrible to think about, but what do you have when the tropics aren't an option? D.A.M.B. is most suggested. Shaun Slaughter's smooth Sacramento beats have stolen my heart, and are bound to do the same to you as well. His music is pleasure to the ears; sounds being referred to as hand claps, bongos, etc. It's nothing that can be explained. It's all indulgent to the ears, create your own opinion. There's no being let down in this situation.

Remix Artist Collective or R.A.C.

André Allen Anjos, a 23-year old Portuguese artist based out of Portlan Oregon, has a little something going on called Remix Artist Collective, or better know as RAC. Not only is this a project of his that includes a plethora of Remixes of many artist such as, Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeros, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Gossip, Au Revoir Simone, Pheonix, Tokyo Police Club and many more, but is also a blog where he writes about new music and fashion amongst other things. Many of you already know he has been creating a big stir for the past while on the west coast. I think its about time he made a stop in Vancouver. Help reel him in for some quality party time.
In the meantime here are two of my new favorite tracks. The piano parts in "Every Thing You Wanted" really bring out the vocals. Very well done.

Dir. Dirt. Dirty.

I know your mom has always told you to wash up after you play, but in this case it's not so important. The weather has subsided from the scorching heat, and has settled into a nice mist amongst the city. Embrace the remainder of the Summer while it's still here, rain or shine. There's never anything short of a party in Vancouver, so keep your ears and eyes open.
